You probably have been there: looking at some spectacular and promising dirt road, guessing: "should I go?". Well, a 200 kg motorcycle is usually not the best vehicle to try and figure it out. Unless... you are properly trained and familiar with your motorcycle's limits.
BMW pioneered the off-road training program a few decades ago. Nowadays the instructions have been refined to address any situation in any terrain: steep slopes, muddy trails, rooted forest paths, narrow tracks... catering for all kinds of riders, from novices to experienced.

HOW DOES IT WORK
OFFICIAL BMW MOTORRAD PROGRAM
Exercises cover lifting the bike, manouvering it from unusual positions, balance, slow speed and clutch control, turning, braking, ascending and descending hills, fording waterways, off-camber turning and aproaching and riding ruts.
All exercises are cut in very simple tasks that will gradually ingrain your muscle memory. We usually mix in small trail rides in which we may already apply our new techniques.
At the end of the training you'll have aquired the essential skills to competently and safely ride off road. As a bonus, all riders acknowledge that their road skills and bike handling capabilities are greatly improved.
We prefer a two-day training program. It is enough to introduce a lot of information and technique and to reinforce newly acquired skills through adequate repetition of exercises.
Day 1: we start at 9 am, make a lunch stop and proceed till 6 pm. After dinner, we'll check the day's pictures and movie clips, share experiences and generally have a very good time
Day 2: start again at 9 am, and end by lunchtime. Overall the program will be finished by 3 pm, after granting the Certificates and T-shirts. A group ride after that can be organized.

We usually work in a beautiful estate 150 km north of Lisbon.
We don't offer motorcycle rental for instruction work though and, if you're reading this English page, it is unlikely that you have access to a motorcycle in Portugal.
However, we are always keen on traveling. If you think you can gather some friends and have access to a suitable location we may put something fun and cost-effective together. We will need a flat, unpaved working area with the approximate dimensions of a soccer field, a few hills, and unpaved trails. We are fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
